THANKSGIVING FEAST:
Doreen Conrad and Jourdan Boskovskvi's kindergarten class enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch prepared by parent volunteers at Dwyer Hall at Immaculate Conception Church. The lunch reinforced the facts the students had learned about the first Thanksgiving.
ALL SAINT'S DAY MASS:
Dressed as saints, Gretchen Hermann's and Nancy Palmer's second grade class explained their chosen saints to the school community during a Mass to celebrate All Saints Day.
KINDERGARTEN FIELD TRIP:
Doreen Conrad's and Jourdan Boskovski's kindergarten class traveled to Abbott's apple farm for their field trip. The students enjoyed a hayride, picked apples and visited farm animals.
FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS CELEBRATED:
On Oct. 2, the Feast of St. Francis was celebrated by Msgr. James McCloskey at a Mass at which IC parents, families and parishioners were invited. Fifthe graders served as altar servers and readers and also presented the gifts.
SOCCER TOURNAMENT:
On Oct. 3, IC hosted the first annual Frank Lisi Soccer Tournament. The tournament was open to Pre-K through sixth grade students and included students from other Catholic schools in the area.
KINDERGARTENERS CELEBRATE "SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY": The kindergarten class of Doreen Conrad and Jourdan Beardsley celebrated "Special Friends Day" on April 3. The student's treated their grandparents and other family members as their special friends by singing to them and serving them fresh fruits and bagels. The students then invited them back to their classrooms where they were introduced to everyone and the teachers read letters the children had written of why their family members are special to them. They were also given flower pots to be taken home.
FOURTH GRADERS ENACT THE PASSION PLAY OF JESUS: On April 7, the fourth grade class of Doreen Kabot and Lorrie Williams depicted the last days of Jesus before his crucifixion. Narrated by Kabot and Williams, the Passion Play of Jesus was presented to the school, parents, grandparents and siblings.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL HOLDS GRAND FINALE ASSEMBLY FOR THE MERCEDES BENZ RAFFLE: An assembly was held at the school on March 6 with special guest Julie Boeheim, Syracuse University's basketball coach Jim Boeheim's wife in attendance. Also present were OTTO, Syracuse University's mascot; the Geico mascot; Little Ceasar's mascot; Lori Myers, manager of the local Geico office and three team members of the U.S. Paralympics. Students wore blue and white clothing and bronze, silver and gold medals to show their school spirit. A $7,500 check, part of the proceeds from the car raffle, was presented to the Coaches vs. Cancer organization. The eight students who sold the most tickets won an opportunity to attend Manley Field House on March 9 to watch the S.U. basketball team practice and to enjoy a special pizza party with the team afterwards. Teachers were also given an "airliner," an interactive tablet used with the schools' Smartboard computer equipment. Chris Longo, computer teacher, was presented with a digital document camera.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION STUDENTS RECEIVE DICTIONARIES: The Syracuse Elks Club #31 donated dictionaries to each third and fourth grade student at Immaculate Conception School on March 18.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL'S ANNUAL DINNER DANCE HELD IN DWYER HALL: A good time was had by all at Immaculate Conception School's annual dinner dance on March 7. This year's theme was "Blue and White Night Goes Green" and Dwyer Hall was transformed into an eco-friendly room. That night, the winner of the Mercedes Benz car raffle was selected. Proceeds from the car raffle are distributed to the school's scholarships endowment fund, its technology program and the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Syracuse University's basketball coach, Jim Boeheim, was present to officially receive a $7,500 check for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. In addition, funds from the proceeds were donated to the U.S. Paralympics.
KINDERGARTENERS ENJOY BEACH-THEMED PICNIC: The kindergarten classes of Doreen Conrad and Jourdan Beardsley enjoyed an afternoon of "sunshine" with a beach-themed picnic. Parent volunteers transformed Dwyer Hall into a sandy oasis. Each student brought a beach towel and wore sunglasses while enjoying hamburgers, hot dogs, baked Sunchips and blue Jello. The children also played beach volleyball and were entertained with face painting activities. |

HOLY CROSS SCHOOL HOSTS AFRICAN-AMERICAN READ IN: Students at Holy Cross School gathered in the school library on Monday, March 9 to listen to stories written by African-American writers. The presentation was arranged through the Reading and Language Arts Division of the School of Education at Syracuse University. Holy Cross extended its observation of Black History Month into the month of March this year and hopes to make the celebration of African-American literacy a traditional part of their annual celebration.

BLESSED SACRAMENT STUDENTS MAKE PIES FOR RESCUE MISSION: On Nov. 23, Lisa Macomber and Dianne Haris' first grade students, along with parent volunteers, prepared 100 pumpkin pies for the Rescue Mission's annual Thanksgiving dinner.
BLESSED SACRAMENT STUDENTS ROCK OUT TO RAISE FUNDS: Over 250 students and their families recently participated in the annual Rock-A-Thon at the school. Students danced to the beat of Rock-A-Rolla DJ Services while collecting donations for their participation. They also enjoyed a cook-out.
BLESSED SACRAMENT SCHOOL'S DRAMA CLUB TO PRESENT PLAY: Hansel and Gretel will be presented by Blessed Sacrament School's drama club on Wednesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. The following night, on April 23, a special performance of the play will be held at the Palace Theater at 2384 James Street in Syracuse at 7 p.m. Admission to the school performance is free and the cost for adults is $4, children $1 and children under 3 free at the Palace Theatre performance. |

ORENDA SPRINGS FIELD TRIP: BA at Holy Family sixth grade classes and a group of thier parents traveled to Orenda Springs, an experiential learning center located in Marcellus on a recent field trip. Activities that day were centered around such life skills as initiative, trust, cooperation, courage and responsibility.
HORSE VISITS SCHOOL: Sixth grader Lexi Mather's horse visited the school as part of the sixth grade's "Quest for Friendship" project. The project emphasizes how animals can make a big difference in one's life.
HALLOWEEN PARADE: During the annual Halloween parade around the school, a group of teachers dressed as "HINI" and "Germbusters" to spread awareness of the importance of practicing good hygiene this flu season.
FIRST ANNUAL LOOK, LISTEN & LEARN FAIR HELD AT BISHOP'S ACADEMY AT HOLY FAMILY: On Thursday, April 2, over 200 people attended the first annual LOOK, LISTEN, & LEARN FAIR at Bishop's Academy at Holy Family. Activities included informational workshops for adults and face painting, music and an interactive magic show for children. At the end of the evening, everyone joined together for a stroll through the Creative Art Museum in the school's cafeteria to view the students' displayed projects that included calligraphy, watercolors, architecture, creative writing, poetry and more.
BASKETBALL SEASON CONCLUDES WITH ANNUAL SPORTS BANQUET: Over 200 basketball players, family members and friends attended Bishop's Academy at Holy Family's "Hoops" Banquet on March 8. The highlight of the banquet was the appearance of Bishop Ludden Jr./Sr. High School's Mens' Varsity Basketball Coach, Pat Donnelly. He spoke to the youth about respect, sportsmanship, the importance of academics and working hard at practice, among other things. Each player received a personalized trophy for their hard work, sportsmanship and school spirit.
STUDENTS AT BISHOP'S ACADEMY AT HOLY FAMILY COUNT PENNIES TO FUND RESEARCH: As one of the school's monthly community service projects, students gathered their spare change and brought it to school to help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society/Pennies for Patients program. Together they raised over $1,100.

DAY OF SONG AND SERVICE: Students from OLS-Seton and St. Joseph's School were treated on Oct. 23 when liturgical music composers Mark Friedman and Janet Vogt shared their music with pre-school through eighth grade students. the young people participated in music workshops, service projects and discussions, all related to the day's theme, "Be the Hands and Heart of God."
ENDICOTT SCHOOLS CELEBRATE CATHOLIC IDENTITY WITH A FALL FESTIVAL: The festival brought together families from St. Joseph and OLS-Seton Schools on the evening of Nov. 12. The celebration began with a Mass in which students served as cantors. Refreshments were served and the children won prizes at various games.
OLS-SETON STUDENTS SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITY WITH DONATIONS: Students at OLS-Seton in Endicott donated their money, time and talents to help the needy in their community. They donated $1,300 to the Bernard Children Trust Fund, among others. Funds were raised in a variety of ways, including two bake sales, a can and bottle drive and the "Pennies for Our Neighbors" program. Earlier in the year, OLS-Seton students generously supported the Catholic Charities Christmas Gift Drive, collected children's books for several organizations, made seasonal place mats to accompany Meals on Wheels meals, sent cards to the home bound, supported a local animal shelter, donated to local food pantries and collected items for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
