TWO CBA SENIORS SIGN LETTERS OF INTENT AT MARIST COLLEGE AND SU: Leanne Ockenden will play women's basketball for Marist College next year and katie Webster will play women's lacrosse for Syracuse University in the fall.
CBA STUDENTS SUPPORT HOPE FOR BEREAVED: Seventh and 10 th grade students showcased their  artistic skills while supporting a wonderful cause at the HOPE for Bereaved 2009 Celebration and Hope Dinner and Auction, Nov. 13, 2009, at the OnCenter. Each student created an original piece that included a butterfly, a symbol used by HOPE for Bereaved, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing hope and support services to those who have lost a loved one. All pieces were dedicated by the students to a deceased loved one. At the event, students stood by their artwork, while event-goers bid on the pieces in a silent auction. Proceeds benefited HOPE for Bereaved.
Nora Hakizimana ’12 appeared on WSYR-9’s Bridge Street to promote the event and show the  piece she created in memory of her mother. Other students who participated in the silent auction were Megan Hyla ’12, Jack Reff ’12, Elizabeth Robison ’12, Charlie Ryan ’12, Kate Sheehan ’12; Sara Boyle ’15, Richard Carroll ’15; Margaret Conan ’15; John Frasier ’15; Mary Ierlan ’15; Julie McInvale ’15; Norman Mingolelli ’15; Serena Schmitt ’15; and Sara Tucker ’15. The 10 th grade students take Studio Art 10, taught by Caryl McGinty, and the 7 th graders take Art 7, taught by Bobby Petrocci.
CBA STUDENTS WIN AP SCHOLAR AWARDS: 36 CBA students have won AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their excellent achievement on the AP Exams.
CBA NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY HOSTS BLOOD DRIVE: On Sept. 29, CBA students donated blood to the American Red Cross. Stuent involvement was encouraged by a National Honor Society poster contest.
SEMIFINALISTS NAMED: CBA senior Andrew Rotunno has been named a semifinalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Competition and senior Chyleigh Harmon was named a semifinalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Competition.
SEVEN CBA SENIORS ACCEPTED AT IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS: Seven members of CBA's class of 2009 have been accepted at Ivy League schools. They are: Garrett Barnard of Syracuse (Harvard University); Noah Kotlove of Fayetteville (University of Pennsylvania); Hersh Sangani of Liverpool (Dartmouth College, Cornell University and University of Pennsylvania); Tyghe Speidel of Manlius (Cornell University); Tom Trasolini of Fayetteville (Cornell University); Jackye Waugh of Tully (Dartmouth College and Brown University); and Melissa Zajdel of Jamesville (Princeton University and Cornell University).
CBA HONORS ALUM WITH PURPLE/GOLD, HOLDS ANNUAL LASALLIAN DINNER AND AUCTION: On March 21, CBA held its 20th Annual Lasallian Dinner and Auction. The theme of the night was "Cassablanca," and over 400 guests attended. Prior to the auction, over 40 alumni, friends, family and members of the CBA community gathered in the school chapel to honor the 2009 Alumni Association Purple and Gold Award recipients: Msgr. Ronald Bill '49 and Edward Leone '74.
CBA HOLDS SCHOLASTIC HONORS NIGHT: On March 19, Christian Brothers Academy held its annual Scholastic Honors Night at Temple Adath Yeshurun to honor students who have exhibited academic excellence. Dressed in formal academia regalia, the CBA faculty processed in, while hundreds of families attended. Students in grades seven through 12 were recognized for achieving High Honors and Honors during the first semester of the academic year. This year's program honored Victoria Mannion, English Department chairperson, as the 2008-2009 Lasallian Educator of the Year for exhibiting the Lasallian values of teaching fostered by the Christian Brothers. In addition, the faculty presented Brother Thomas Zoppo, FSC, principal, with a gift in thanks for his dedication to the school over the past six years. Zoppo will leave CBA for an assignment as president of Calvert Hall College High School, Baltimore, Md., at the end of this school year. General excellence awards were presented to two students in each class for outstanding academic achievement. Honorees were:

CBA FRESHMAN WINS BRONZE IN ADAPTIVE SKIING AT EMPIRE STATE GAMES: CBA ninth grader Christina Kim of Liverpool won a bronze medal at the 29th Annual Empire State Winter Games held in Lake Placid on Feb. 21.
CBA STUDENTS ADD UP IMPRESSIVE RESULTS: CBA standouts competed with students from 16 other Onondaga County schools on Feb. 28 at the 32nd Annual Onondaga County Math League All-County Competition at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. The Gold Team of junior Patrice Lawless of Syracuse, and seniors, Andrew Kim of Liverpool, Steve LaBerge of Syracuse, Chris Ponge of Fayetteville, Tyghe Speidel of Manlius and Andrew Wendl of Manlius, took second place in the small school division. Individually, Chris Ponge and junior, Andrew Rotunno of Liverpool, finished among the top 30 scores from the 2008-2009 season and will go on to compete in the New York State Math League Competition April 25 at John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction.
"ONCE UPON A MATTRESS": Christian Brothers Academy will present “Once Upon a Mattress” on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, 2009, 7 p.m., at Nottingham High School Auditorium. Directed by English teacher Gene Moretti, the play is a rollicking spin on the classic fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” Tickets are $8 and can be purchased by calling the school at 446-5960 x1120.
CBA RAISES FUNDS FOR KENYAN STUDENT CENTER: CBA completed its 2009 Lenten Drive, raising $10,300 for the Child Discovery Center in Nakuru, Kenya. the Center is a home for street and destitute children administered by the De La Salle Brothers. Money raised will be used for clean water, food, supplies and clothing for the students at the Center.
CBA BREAKS GROUND FOR ATHLETIC FIELD RENOVATIONS: On April 23, CBA held a groundbreaking ceremony for its athletic field renovations at John B. Alibrandi Stadium. The improvements are part of the school's "To Be The Best" capital campaign, which has raised almost $10 million to date. The entire student body was present, as was faculty, parents, alumni and campaign supporters.
CBA ALUMNI GOLF TOURNEY RAISES $9,000 FOR SCHOLARSHIPS, ACTIVITIES: On June 29, CBA held its 14th Annual Alumni Golf Scramble at Tuscarora Country Club. The money raised will fund alumni scholarships and activities such as the annual Purple and Gold Award reception, memorial Mass, homecoming tailgate and alumni basketball, football. baseball and hockey games.
CBA CELEBRATED ALL CLASS REUNION WEEKEND: Representing 65 years of CBA history, alumni from classes ending in "4" and "9" gathered from across the country to celebrate the school's 2009 All-Alumni Reunion Weekend June 26-28. the weekend included a cocktail party on Friday, dinner and dancing at Drumlins Country Club on Saturday and a special Sunday Mass for alumni and their families at the CBA Chapel. In additon, 20 alumni and current coaches gathered on the diamond for some friendly compettion at the first CBA Alumni Baseball Game.

THANKSGIVING MASS: St. Daniel – St. Matthew Academy celebrated its Thanksgiving Mass on Tue., Nov. 24 in the academy’s gym. Ms. Adler’s kindergarten class celebrated the Mass with help from their 6th grade friends. 
The children created and wore headdresses and pilgrim outfits that replicated those worn at the original Thanksgiving Feast. The children recited the readings and brought up the gifts. This is a school tradition that the children look forward to every year since it began in 1995.
